Bible Study Magazine: Something for Everyone
In my opinion, a major publishing event took place with the issuing of Bible Study Magazine late last year. If the September-November 2008 and the just received January-February 2009 issues are a preview of things to come, well, good things will be coming along for serious Bible students. A new tool from LOGOS Bible Software in print form! What a delightful surprise!
As indicated in the title of this posting, the magazine offers something for everyone, from the Sunday School teacher to the preacher to the College or Seminary student and professor. In the inaugural issue the editor Michael Heiser writes that the magazine “will enhance your study of God’s word in a variety of ways, suggesting methods of Bible study and offering tips on Bible study tools. It includes advice and encouragement from pastors, teachers and scholars on Bible study. Interesting and challenging content about the Bible and the ancient biblical world will take your study to a completely new level.” Overviews of Bible books, word studies (both Greek and Hebrew!), book reviews, the value of archaeology for understanding scripture, choosing Bible translations, inductive Bible study principles, rock music and Bible study, and even a sprinkling of comics and puzzles. Authors like Josh McDowell, Mark Goodacre, Daniel Wallace, Craig Broyles, and Peter Flint are just a few of the important contributors to the publication. Relatively new authors like Jeannine Seery, Christy Tennant, and John D. Barry will enrich your mind as well.
In a day in which I find myself having to be more careful than ever in budgeting for magazines (I currently subscribe to more than 15 weekly, monthly, or quarterly publications, and I fear that some of these will not be renewed due to limited funds), I do not intend to drop my subscription to this important magazine. The introductory rate of $14.95 is still available. If you have to, let your subscription to Rolling Stone or People or TV Guide expire and sign up at www.BibleStudyMagazine.com. Today.
